Thursday, January 16, 2014
This weekend Miami Beach celebrates the 37th Annual Art Deco Weekend. This festival allows visitors to relive the glamorous past of Miami Beach with different interesting and fun activities. This year's theme (Art Deco at Play) is focused on toys (remember Legos?), games and characters who made popular this design style in the 20s. 30s and 40s.
More than 80 events are scheduled for this weekend. Check out some of the most worthy to participate:
The Antique Experience: This is a new addition to the Festival that will be intensely focused on Art Deco. Also featured on The Antique Experience will be:
- Art Deco inspired Films: The Great Gabsy (2013) and Chicago (2002).
- Art Deco Lectures: This Saturday at 5pm at The Antique Experience tent will have the lecture "Modern American Design"
Art Deco Playground
Dedicated only for kids, this area will feature dance and magic shows for kids and classic films such as The Wizard of Oz (1939), Curly Top (1935) and others.

Art Deco Lecture Series
Hosted by Wolfsonian museum, attendees will daydream about faraway lands with stunning Art Deco, or relive their youth in discovering which toys originated in Deco 20-40's.
I'm especially excited to learn about Napier New Zealand's treasure of Art Deco buildings in Hawke's Cay. This site is located along the water similar to Miami. But is there Art Deco style akin to skyscraper's of New York and Shenghai or low rise like South Beach? Find out and also win a chance for airfare for two to Napier's 26 annual Art Deco Festival this coming February!
Some other activities are The Classic Car Show and The Music Festival. For a complete schedule of activities visit www.artdecoweekend.com.
