The Unexpected, Strange and Free Soup at Art Basel 2012
Wednesday, December 05, 2012
From the eccentric, to the outrageous, to free soup. Yes free soup! Art comes in all forms and here are some of the selections that may impress you or not. But definitely something for watercooler Monday morning chatter, "So what did you do this weekend"?
Chanel No. 5 Bungalo
By now you've probably seen the black and white commercial of Brad Pitt, rambling in
incoherent phrases, sounding half drunk rather than philosophical. Is this really selling perfume? Well it has ignited a hilarious parody, "Rebels in Paradise". This Art Basel show is inspired by Hunter Drohojowska-Philp's book about LA art in the 1960's. The video contains a scruffy gentleman delivering ridiculous sentence fragments, including our personal favorite: "Mezcal up to my ears... Great art takes over..." The teaser ends with a perfume bottle labeled "Bungalo N°5, Delano Hotel, Miami" — the locale of the upcoming exhibition.
WHERE: Delano Hotel, Bungalo No 5; 1685 Collins Avenue (South Beach)

A new twist on the love boat or soul train...
"Love Stream" is billed as Randy Polumbo's "most ambitious and monumental work to date". The silver "airstream" trailer is filled with some very curious objects meant to create a "psychoanalytic intervention". In other words, it's a van filled with dildos.

Hundreds of artists and creatives make the trip to Art Basel Miami Beach every year on shoestring budgets; the soup kitchen gives back and supports a community that has helped shape the energy and success of OHWOW’s endeavors.

In true exotic fashion, DJs Laroz and Morphosis will "get dirty and bring down" the house or in this case, a bedouin pop-up tent with eclectic music from all parts of the Middle East. The goal according to the press release is to show how ecstatic and eclectic music can inspire togetherness and to shine the light on the traditions of tolerance and coexistence, that continue in the Middle East despite uncertain times.
