Taking a hint from South Beach's revival of their glory days during Art Deco in the late 30's to boost tourism and business, downtown Miami is returning to its shady past that actually led to the city's boom. Remember Prohibition era? Even the criminal element enjoyed finer things in life and excelled at memorable parties.
Welcome to The Bank, a new den of dancing inside an old financial institution, opening tonight with a Prohibition-themed Halloween extravaganza.
You’ll enter the historic Dade Commonwealth Building adorned with marble walls, ornate Roman columns and soaring vaulted ceilings. Once inside, you’ll have your choice of four distinct areas, all of which take you back to another era.
Start in Gallery 139, an art space that acts as a foyer leading you into the Vault Room, the main bar area, where you’ll find the 90-year-old safe, which also doubles as a VIP room. For your entourage including patners in crime, head to the Lotus Garden outdoors, a good spot to land for the night, with punch bowl service and plenty of room to spread out.
Lending to the theme is the Capone Room, an upstairs jazz lounge with a speakeasy feel and a substantial stock of brandy behind the bar.
This is not Las Vegas, so be careful what you say and do! "If the walls could talk". Who knows perhaps they do!
