Miami Heat Players' Favorite Lunch Restaurant
Sunday, May 22, 2011If you're wondering where does a Miami Heat player grab a bite to eat for lunch, it turns out a favorite restaurant for locals is also the restaurant of choice for Chris Bosh. No it's not the Big Pink in South Beach although I have seen a Miami Heat player come in one Sunday afternoon last year. Introducing Berries in Coconut Grove. Below is an article by Alison Agudo from Coconut Grove Voice highlighting this long-time restaurant nestled between the bedroom community canopied by branches of overgrown trees and just east of US1. By the way, my favorite dish is the pumpkin ravioli when it's in season!
CHRIS BOSH ENJOYS BERRIES IN THE GROVE
Coconut Grove is home to Miami Heat’s Lebron James and the backdrop to many episodes of the popular USA Network show Burn Notice, and now, for a second time this year, fellow Heat basketball star Chris Bosh is giving a shout out to the Grove.
First, in the January issue of Ocean Drive Magazine, Miami Heat basketball star Chris Bosh recommended Paragon Grove 13 as one of his favorite things about Miami. Now, in the April issue of Haute Living Magazine, Bosh lists a few of his favorite hangouts in Miami. While some may come as no surprise (Zuma for sushi, Fontainebleau for partying and 8oz. Burger Bar for late night dining) it was a pleasant surprise to see Bosh mention Berries in the Grove as one of his favorite go-to places for lunch.
Berries in the Grove, 2884 SW 27 Ave., is one of many choices for dining in the area. However, what makes it stand out from the rest, besides the Bosh shout-out, is the large variety of health conscious dishes and the relaxed-yet-hip atmosphere. Berries offers a wide array of salads, wraps, pitas, paninis, smoothies and sandwiches for lunch and dinner options include seafood, steaks, pizza, homemade pasta and even tofu stir fry.
If you’re in the area for lunch, grab a mid-day plate of hummus with celery, carrots and pita chips or even a beef, grilled chicken or tofu quesadilla. For the salad lovers, Berries offers a goat cheese and caramelized apple salad, a chicken or tuna salad platter, Greek salad and tuna Nicoise among others. If you prefer a wrap or sandwich, their list includes items such as teriyaki chicken wrap, mahi tacos, chicken chimichanga wrap, Berries burger, veggie burger, grilled or blackened dolphin sandwich, and a chicken club.
If Berries is your dinner choice, there are plenty of options too. Lobster ravioli, hand cut potato gnocchi with house made marinara or gorgonzola sauce, forest risotto, pan seared ahi tuna, skirt steak, rib eye, BBQ chicken pizza, prosciutto pizza and more. Dessert options include a chocolate pizza (chocolate and Nutella with frozen vanilla yogurt) or fresh apple pizza (apples, brown sugar, run and a touch of cinnamon).
Berries is also known for their specials so if you’re there at the right time, you may be in for an extra treat. These include deals such as $10 Pasta Tuesday (all day you can choose between three of the chefs pasta creations), T-Bone Steak Thursdays (all day you can get a 16oz T-Bone with a choice of two sides for $11.99), Live Maine Lobster Night (Saturday from 5 p.m. – 10 p.m. get a 1.25 lb live Maine lobster with two sides for $15.99), and of course, Ladies Night (Thursday from 9 p.m. – 11 p.m. ladies enjoy select free cocktails and Miller Light draft).
Berries also features a regular Happy Hour from Monday through Sunday 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. with $4 Wells, $5 Calls, $4 house wines and $1 off all draft and bottled beer (excluding Chimay). If you’re still up for more, they also have a Late Night Happy Hour Thursday thru Sunday from 11 p.m. – 12 a.m. with the same deals.
The restaurant/bar offers take out and delivery if you can’t stick around. Delivery applies to the entire menu Monday thru Friday 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. to anyone in the 33133 zip code. Delivery orders can be made by calling 305-448-2111.
