A White Christmas in St. Augustine
Saturday, November 29, 2008A White Christmas awaits you in Fabulous Florida. While snowflakes may not be the "white" I'm referring to, but rather millions of white lights illuminate the 443-year old city of St. Augustine, one of my favorite cities in Florida.
This is my wish list--to visit St. Augustine in the month of December. Why? Well, it's a little cooler in temperature compared to Miami to lend to a wintery air, and also St. Augustine is both rich in history and architectural artistry that meld to create a superlative charming destination.
The city has also planned more activities than a stocking full of treats. While it's not the north pole, this north Florida city creates a Winter Wonderland loaded with an ice rink, an ice slide for a sleigh ride, lighted nature trails, Santa visits, Christmas plays, and open fires to roast s'mores and more. The Winter Wonderland is free to the public and the different events are an affordable $5- $10. But that's just the Winter Wonderland.
For example, throughout the city there are nighttime tours of historical buildings and inns with tour guides dressed in that time period clothing, a saxophone concert, arts and crafts festival, and the famous annual Night Lights celebration just to name a few. Best of all, the prices are wallet friendly. The Quiltmaker's Gift is a heartwarming play at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre and tickets are only $5. The story itself makes the perfect gift! For a complete list of all events through the first few days of January, click here or scroll down below for a quick glance.
The Night Light Celebration, a little reindeer told me, is worth a visit if you're passing by the city. From November 22 through January 31, visitors can soak in the radiant splendor of this historic city covered in dazzling white lights.
Wow--this is really a perfect way to spend Christmas--in a city that has all the trimmings--history, artistry, charm, and plenty of Christmas activities for the whole family. Best of all-no frost-biting-toe temperatures but cold enough to say, "I spent a White Christmas in St. Augustine".
